I’m in an art show and the reception is tonight. If you live in Windsor and you’d like something to do, check out 1942 Wyandotte Street East (Artspeak Gallery) between 6-9pm. There will be food. And art!

The interesting part of the show is that the entire gallery consists of work that the artists made at Artspeak during the week. It was stressful but fun!

We Stopped Dreaming

Powerful speech by Neil DeGrasse Tyson.

On Finding What You Love

“From my experience, you can’t wait around to find what you love. You gotta work your ass off. And then you find what you love by doing piles and piles of work.”

-Kate Bingaman Burt, speaking at a Creative Mornings talk.

Chicago

I really liked Chicago. The people were very polite, the subway system is aboveground and really fun, the art was great. And the thrift stores! I was in heaven.

Plus there was vegan pizza and I got a pair of shoes to replace my old pair that was falling apart. Chicago is a city I could live in.

Escapades

A few weeks ago it was unseasonably warm and I went to Detroit with some friends. We spent some time looking around abandoned buildings. I ended up really liking the photos.

change-up

Hello everyone,

Since it’s April and I just finished my studio courses, I felt the urge to do some deep cleaning. Possibly because whenever I paint in my room it becomes a huge mess? Definitely not.

Anyways, my room had been renovated last year, opening up the closet to create a little desk nook. I decorated those walls with what I had decorated my walls with in Toronto, basically some old drawings and process notes. The idea was to paste whatever sketches I was working on on the wall, so I could work on my current projects without having papers everywhere. It didn’t really work.

It looks alright, I guess, but I was sick of it. So I took it down, scrubbed the walls, and tried this tutorial, which looked ridiculous. At this point I was out of ideas, and the blank wall looked a bit funny, so I put up some photos and cards from friends.

Now it looks like this. I don’t really know if I like it or not. I think I’ll keep it up for a bit and see. I put the photos up with masking tape, in case anyone is interested. I’ve been doing that for years and I never mark up the walls. I should mention that the group of photos looks much more centred in real life than in this photo.

I recently got Instagram (username is Saraandcompanyy, yes with two “y”s), so maybe when I have enough photos, I’ll replace this with an Instagram wall sort of like this one, although it seems to require a lot more patience than I have. I never thought I would get Instagram and then my friend Josh piqued my interest and I caved. It’s sort of fun in a really dorky way.

Also, I got a contact form message from a anonymous person directing me to a Kijiji ad with a bunch of old cameras. I’m going to get them today, so thanks a lot! I may put those up on the wall instead.

And before I go, have you guys read this article yet? It’s freaky, and it’s a big reason why I don’t have a Facebook.

Hope everyone is having a lovely day.

Ultra Wide and Slim

These photos are from the Vivitar Ultra Wide and Slim that I received for Christmas. I didn’t even know if this camera had light leaks or not so getting photos like these was quite nice. As you can see, it’s an outdoor camera (and this was 800 speed film!), but the shots are quite nice. I think this little thing is sort of charming and definitely worth the $30, plus it comes with a roll of film. I’m going to New York in a week and I think I’ll bring this one along too.

In other news, I am so digging this recipe.
